Instrumental Music

Students in year 4 to 6 are given an opportunity to learn a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument in the Band program.  Students in year 3 to 6 to are given an opportunity to learn an instrument in the strings program.

The Instrumental Music Program provides tuition on a wide range of musical instruments.  Students are required to attend weekly 30-minute lesson during school time.  Students are also required to attend a large group rehearsal (eg. junior band or strings) during lunch break once a week. Opportunities to perform to peers, parents, grandparents and the wider community will occur throughout the year.

Costs Involved – Instrument Supplies

Students will require a method book - approximate cost $40.

Instruments also require various consumable supplies.  You will receive more information about what consumable supplies are required once your child's place in the program is confirmed.

Levy

All students are required to pay an instrumental music levy of $30.  This is used to cover photocopying band music, regional music levies, display folder, pencil  and purchasing of new repertoire and other equipment.

Instrument Purchase or Hire

The school has some instruments that will be available for use by beginning students.

Instrument hire is $80.  This is in addition to the $30 levy (total $110 for levy + hire).  This amount contributes to the cost of repairing and servicing the instruments.  School instruments will be distributed as fairly as possible, with priority going to beginning students.  While every effort is given to provide your child with their first choice of instrument, this is not always possible.

Alternatively, you may wish to purchase an instrument for your child.  Students with their own instruments are only required to pay the $30 levy.

Please note, we have a very limited number of violins, violas and bass guitars available for hire.  Violins and violas can be purchased for less cost than many larger instruments.  If you are willing to purchase one of these instruments for your child, please indicate on the form below. The Instrumental Music teachers can help with regards of what brands to look for when purchasing new or second hand.

Enrolment in the program is for a minimum period of 1 year, after which students who continue are expected to supply their own instrument.  Some larger, more expensive instruments will be available for hire for more than one year.
